The Permit, and What It Costs
You need a Sri Lankan driving permit to ride a scooter here. Your home licence or International Driving Permit alone does not cover it.
There are two routes. The DMT permit costs LKR 15,000 for one month and you can collect it at the airport counter on arrival, which is open 24 hours. You need your licence in English, but no IDP. The AAC permit lasts six months and we handle the application for USD 40 with your booking, though you need an International Driving Permit from home.
If you have an IDP and you are staying more than a few weeks, the AAC permit is the better value. If you arrived without one, use the airport counter.

How to Pay
Payment is taken on collection by cash, card, Google Pay, Apple Pay, or a payment link we send on WhatsApp. We accept USD, EUR, GBP, and LKR. Nothing is charged in advance and there are no card fees.
The refundable USD 100 deposit is taken at the same time and returned when you bring the scooter back. Card deposits are charged rather than held, and the refund lands within two weeks of your rental ending.
