Driving a car out of Ahangama
A car isn't essential for the surf-break hopping — Kabalana and Midigama are both under 4 km — but it's useful for carrying boards, wetsuits, and bags together without balancing anything on a rack, especially with more than one surfer in the group.
Weligama, Mirissa, and Galle Fort are all easy runs on flat coast road, and the boot keeps gear dry and secure if the weather turns while you're out for the day.

- Which car model should I pick?
- The Alto K10 is the most affordable for two people and light bags. The Wagon R and Aqua fit more luggage — useful with boards and gear — and the Prius is the roomiest of the four.
- Is this self-drive, or can I hire a driver too?
- Self-drive is the default — you get the keys, and we handle your Sri Lankan necessary paperwork before you arrive. If you'd rather not drive yourself, a chauffeur option is available on all four models, with the rate quoted per trip on WhatsApp.
- Is a car practical for a surf trip along this stretch of coast?
- It works well for carrying people and general luggage between breaks, though a tuk tuk is often easier day-to-day if you're moving boards — ask us on WhatsApp about board-carrying options for your dates.
- Can I return the car somewhere other than Ahangama?
- Yes. Plenty of guests finish in Galle, Mirissa, or further along the coast. Tell us where you expect to end up and we will arrange collection.
