Hiriketiya as a surf base
Hiriketiya's horseshoe-shaped bay is small enough to cross on foot — most of what makes it a well-known surf spot is right there, within the curve of the bay itself.
Worth knowing before you go
- Dickwella, the next beach over, is under 2 km away and home to the Hoo-maniya blowhole.
- Tangalle, with its long empty beaches and Rekawa's turtle nesting grounds, is about 18 km east.
- Mirissa's whale-watching harbour and crescent beach sit roughly 32 km the other direction, back toward Galle.
- Galle itself, our base, is about 65 km away — more of a full excursion than a casual hop. Hiriketiya stays quieter than the busier beaches closer to Galle.
Which vehicle suits Hiriketiya
- Scooter or tuk tuk — all most guests need for Dickwella and the immediate area; the bay itself doesn't need a vehicle at all.
- Car or motorbike — worth having once Tangalle, Mirissa, or the run back to Galle are part of the plan.
