Driving a tuk tuk out of Unawatuna

Unawatuna is a short curve of beach six kilometres south of Galle, about fifteen minutes by road — small enough to get around on foot, but a tuk tuk is the easy way to cover the coast road either direction: back into the Fort, or further south past Koggala toward Ahangama.

Jungle Beach, just over the Rumassala headland, is close enough to be a same-morning trip — a few kilometres and a short climb rather than a proper excursion.

Only the AAC permit covers a tuk tuk — the DMT counter at the airport doesn't extend to three-wheelers. We handle the AAC application before you arrive; the office itself is in Colombo, so it's not somewhere you'll need to go.

Tuk tuk

When we had a flat tire, they immediately got in their car and brought us an extra spare wheel. Before we hit the road, we were given a thorough driving lesson.

Questions about tuk tuk rental in Unawatuna

Is a tuk tuk practical for getting around Unawatuna?
Yes — the roads around the beach and up to Galle are well suited to it, and it carries more than a scooter or motorbike if you're travelling as a group.
Can I fit more than two people and luggage?
Yes — that's the tuk tuk's advantage over a scooter or motorbike. It comfortably carries a small family or group with bags.
Can I return the tuk tuk somewhere other than Unawatuna?
Yes. Tell us where you expect to end up along the coast and we will arrange collection.
