About the Suzuki Alto K10
The Alto K10 is the smallest and least expensive of NOHA's four cars: a 998 cc petrol hatch that is easy to place on narrow lanes and light on fuel. Its 214-litre boot takes one large suitcase plus a couple of cabin bags, so it suits one or two people travelling fairly light. It comes with a manual gearbox or an automated-manual (AGS) that costs the same to rent.

The Alto K10 comes as a manual or as an automated-manual (AGS) — a manual gearbox with an automatic clutch and shift, so there are two pedals rather than three. The rental price is the same either way; tell us which you would like when you book and we will confirm it for your dates.

Refundable deposit

Nothing is charged in advance. The refundable deposit is taken when you collect the vehicle, by cash, card, Google Pay, Apple Pay, or a payment link we send on WhatsApp, in USD, EUR, GBP, or LKR. Card deposits are charged rather than held, and refunded within two weeks of your rental ending.
If your card is issued in EUR or GBP, your bank converts twice and the refund can come back slightly under what you paid. Paying the deposit in cash avoids this.
The paperwork you’ll need to drive
Your home licence is not enough on its own, and neither is an International Driving Permit by itself. Sri Lanka has two issuers, and they differ in fee, validity, and which vehicles they cover.

Department of Motor TrafficIf you have an International Driving Permit, the AAC permit is the better choice. It costs less, lasts six months instead of one, and covers every vehicle including tuk tuks. If you arrived without an IDP, use the DMT counter at the airport. It is open 24 hours and you can collect it on the way out.

Why self-drive, and why the paperwork matters
The Alto K10 is the easiest of the four to live with day to day here: narrow enough for the lanes inside Galle Fort and the back roads to the south-coast beach breaks, and cheap enough to fuel that an unplanned detour inland costs next to nothing. Driving it yourself, it is the small car you stop and start wherever you like, rather than watching a hired driver's clock.
Stay more than a few days, and driving yourself wins
Not because it is cheaper on paper. A hired driver’s day ends, and yours doesn’t. This rental is priced per day, with unlimited kilometres — the rate does not move based on how far you go or what time you come back.
Nobody should rent here without the local paperwork
We have handled the paperwork for every customer across 3+ years of operation, and no customer has been turned away at that stage. An operator who waves the requirement away has likely made decisions about insurance and maintenance that you cannot see either.
Pickup and island-wide delivery
We deliver to your hotel or guesthouse and collect island-wide, arranged on WhatsApp. Airport and train station transfers are available — your Suzuki Alto K10 arrives with a full tank and the 214 L boot cleared and ready for luggage.

- Is the Alto K10 automatic or manual?
- Both are available. It comes with a conventional manual gearbox or an automated-manual (AGS) that clutches and shifts for you. The rental price is the same for either — let us know your preference when you book and we will confirm availability for your dates.
- Will two people with luggage fit in the Alto K10?
- Yes, for two people carrying one large suitcase (24–28") and up to two cabin bags — that is what the 214-litre boot is sized for. For three or more travellers, or two large suitcases, the Wagon R or a hybrid is the more comfortable choice.
- Is the Alto K10 powerful enough for hill country?
- It manages the climbs to Ella or Nuwara Eliya with two people and light luggage, but the 998 cc engine is happiest on the coast and in town. If your route is mostly upcountry, or you are travelling heavy, the Aqua or Prius will feel less strained.
- Does the Alto K10 have air conditioning?
- Yes. Air conditioning is standard on all four of NOHA's cars, along with full insurance, unlimited kilometres and a driving introduction lesson.
- Can I drop the vehicle off in a different town?
- Yes. Plenty of people pick up at our base and finish in Ella or Hikkaduwa. Tell us where you expect to end up and we will arrange collection. We can move your luggage separately too, if you'd rather not bring it with you.
- What if something goes wrong on the road?
- Message us. WhatsApp support runs 365 days a year and we arrange roadside help. We have driven out with a spare wheel more than once.
