About the Suzuki Wagon R
The Wagon R shares the Alto K10's 998 cc engine but wraps it in a taller body, so headroom and the 341-litre boot are noticeably more generous for much the same running cost. It is the pick for two or three people who want small-car fuel bills without the tight back seat. Gearbox and petrol-or-hybrid depend on which variant is in the yard for your dates.
Is the Suzuki Wagon R right for your trip?
Best for
- Two or three travellers who want more space than the Alto K10 without a bigger fuel bill
- Trips with two large suitcases plus cabin bags — its 341-litre boot is the largest outside the Prius
- Mixed coastal and highway driving on a mid-range budget
Consider another model if…
If you are four or more, packing three large cases, or spending most of the trip on long highway and mountain roads, step up to the Aqua or Prius for hybrid economy and a more relaxed drive. Drop to the Alto K10 if it is just one or two of you travelling light and budget is the priority.

Refundable deposit
USD 300
Nothing is charged in advance. The refundable deposit is taken when you collect the vehicle, by cash, card, Google Pay, Apple Pay, or a payment link we send on WhatsApp, in USD, EUR, GBP, or LKR. Card deposits are charged rather than held, and refunded within two weeks of your rental ending.
If your card is issued in EUR or GBP, your bank converts twice and the refund can come back slightly under what you paid. Paying the deposit in cash avoids this.
The paperwork you’ll need to drive
Your home licence is not enough on its own, and neither is an International Driving Permit by itself. Sri Lanka has two issuers, and they differ in fee, validity, and which vehicles they cover.

Department of Motor TrafficIf you have an International Driving Permit, the AAC permit is the better choice. It costs less, lasts six months instead of one, and covers every vehicle including tuk tuks. If you arrived without an IDP, use the DMT counter at the airport. It is open 24 hours and you can collect it on the way out.
We handle the application before you arrive. It is charged separately from the vehicle rental.

Why self-drive, and why the paperwork matters
The Wagon R's tall body is what makes driving it yourself worthwhile: you sit high with a clear view over tuk-tuk traffic, the doors open wide for loading bags outside a guesthouse, and the 341-litre boot means a board bag or an extra suitcase still fits when the plan changes mid-trip. It handles the mix most people actually drive here — coast road, a run inland, town parking — without the tight back seat of the Alto K10.
Stay more than a few days, and driving yourself wins
Not because it is cheaper on paper. A hired driver’s day ends, and yours doesn’t. This rental is priced per day, with unlimited kilometres — the rate does not move based on how far you go or what time you come back.
Nobody should rent here without the local paperwork
We have handled the paperwork for every customer across 3+ years of operation, and no customer has been turned away at that stage. An operator who waves the requirement away has likely made decisions about insurance and maintenance that you cannot see either.
Pickup and island-wide delivery
We deliver to your hotel or guesthouse and collect island-wide, arranged on WhatsApp. Airport and train station transfers are available — your Suzuki Wagon R arrives with a full tank and the 341 L boot cleared and ready for luggage.
Need it further out, or finishing your trip somewhere else entirely? We deliver and collect island-wide — message us on WhatsApp with the details. That covers one-way trips along the coast too: Galle, Unawatuna, Ahangama, Midigama, Weligama, Mirissa, Tangalle, Ella.
Common questions
- How much bigger is the Wagon R than the Alto K10?
- Same 998 cc engine and five seats, but a taller body: the boot grows from 214 to 341 litres and headroom improves noticeably. Running costs are about the same, so it is the natural step up when the Alto K10 feels a little tight.
- Is the Wagon R petrol or hybrid?
- It depends on the variant available for your dates — some are straight petrol, some are mild-hybrid petrol. Both use the 998 cc engine and return similar economy. Ask us what is in the yard for your trip if it matters to you.
- Is the Wagon R automatic?
- Manual and automatic are both available. The automatic type (AGS or CVT) varies by variant, so let us know you need an automatic when you book and we will confirm.
- Does the Wagon R have air conditioning?
- Yes, on every NOHA car, along with full insurance, unlimited kilometres and a driving introduction lesson.
- Can I drop the vehicle off in a different town?
- Yes. Plenty of people pick up at our base and finish in Ella or Hikkaduwa. Tell us where you expect to end up and we will arrange collection. We can move your luggage separately too, if you'd rather not bring it with you.
- What if something goes wrong on the road?
- Message us. WhatsApp support runs 365 days a year and we arrange roadside help. We have driven out with a spare wheel more than once.
