Driving a car out of Ella
The hill-country roads up to Ella are well paved but have plenty of bends, and a car handles the climb more comfortably than two wheels — worth considering if you're coming up from the coast in one push rather than breaking the trip.
Ella itself is walkable for the town centre, but a car is useful for reaching Nine Arch Bridge, Little Adam's Peak, or the longer run out to Diyaluma Falls without arranging a tuk tuk each time. Evenings get noticeably cooler than the coast, so the drive up is also a small climate change.

- The Alto K10 is fine for two people and light bags. Coming up from the coast with luggage for the whole trip, the Wagon R or Aqua carry more comfortably, and the Prius is the roomiest — worth it if you're travelling as a family for the cooler hill-country stretch.
- Is this self-drive, or can I hire a driver too?
