Scooter & Bike Rental in Galle, Sri Lanka

The cheapest way to move around Galle Fort and the coast south of it, and the easiest thing to park in the Fort itself. It's also what most rental shops in Galle mean when they advertise 'bike rent' — 'bike' is the local shorthand for an automatic scooter like this one.

Getting around Galle on two wheels

The scooter's advantage starts right at the Fort — it's the easiest of the four vehicles to park on those narrow lanes, and quick for the short coastal hops out to Unawatuna or Hikkaduwa afterward.

On the slower coast roads south of Galle, a scooter overtakes easily where a tuk tuk can't, which adds up if your day is about covering distance rather than pottering between two beach towns. Two helmets come with every scooter, one each if you're riding with a passenger.

A scooter isn't exempt from the requirement — you'll need either the AAC or DMT permit alongside your home licence, same as any other vehicle. We handle that paperwork before you arrive, so neither office is somewhere you need to go yourself.

Scooter

The bike was near new, loved that the petrol cap wasn't under the seat so i could get it filled up whilst still sitting. Dropping off was just as easy and was given a ride back to my hotel.

Questions about scooter rental in Galle

Is a scooter enough to get around Galle Fort and the coast?
Yes. It's the easiest vehicle to park inside the Fort, and quick for the short coastal hops to Unawatuna or Hikkaduwa.
Can I ride with a passenger?
Yes. Both rider and passenger need a helmet, and two are provided with every scooter.
Can I return the scooter somewhere other than Galle?
Yes. Plenty of people finish in Ella or Hikkaduwa. Tell us where you expect to end up and we will arrange collection.
Is 'bike rent' in Galle the same as scooter rental?
Almost always, yes. When shops in Galle advertise 'bike rent', 'bike hire', or 'rent a bike', they normally mean an automatic scooter like this one — 'bike' is the local shorthand. If you specifically want a geared 150cc, that is a motorbike, which we rent separately in Galle.
