Driving a tuk tuk out of Galle
Your tuk tuk starts at a base in Galle, close to Galle Fort. The Fort itself is better done on foot — narrow streets, ramparts, and barely any traffic once you're inside the walls — so most guests park just outside and walk in, then take the tuk tuk out along the coast road.
That coast road is where the tuk tuk earns its keep: mixed traffic of buses, motorbikes, and the odd dog or cow, often with no painted lane markings, but the 40 km/h legal limit keeps the pace forgiving. Most first-time drivers are tense for the first few minutes, then settle into it.
The AAC permit office itself is in Colombo, not Galle, but that's not something you need to deal with — we prepare the paperwork and handle the application before you arrive. And if something goes wrong on the road, we come to you — one group got a flat tire heading out of Galle and we drove out with a spare rather than leaving it to a roadside garage.

- It's better suited to the roads around and south of the Fort than the narrow lanes inside it — plenty of guests park just outside and walk in.
- Can I fit more than two people and luggage?
- Yes — that's the tuk tuk's advantage over a scooter or motorbike. It comfortably carries a small family or group with bags for the coast road south of Galle.
- Can I return the tuk tuk somewhere other than Galle?
- Yes. Tell us where you expect to end up along the coast and we will arrange collection.
