Driving a car out of Hatton

For most travellers a car is the right choice in Hatton. The roads are wet, misty and slow, the drops at the edge are real, and a closed cabin with a heater and working wipers takes the stress out of a downpour on an estate road. The boot also keeps luggage dry, which two wheels can't.

The drive to the Adam's Peak trailhead at Nallathanniya is about 30 km of winding road via Maskeliya — comfortable in a car, though parking near the trailhead is tight in pilgrimage season. East on the A7, St Clair's and Devon Falls, Talawakele, and Nuwara Eliya are all a straightforward if slow drive. First or second gear on the steep descents saves the brakes.

Questions about car rental in Hatton

Is a car the best vehicle for the roads around Hatton?
For most people, yes. The hill roads are slow, wet and misty year-round, and a heated, closed cabin with good wipers and a dry boot makes a real difference over two wheels. An experienced rider might still prefer the motorbike for the climbs.
Which car model should I pick for the hill country?
Any of the four handles the roads; it's about space. The Alto K10 suits two people with light bags, the Wagon R and Aqua add room for a small family, and the Prius fits the most luggage — useful if Hatton is one stop on a longer hill-country loop.
Can I hire a driver instead of driving myself?
Yes. A chauffeur option is available on all four models, quoted per trip on WhatsApp — a common choice for the hill country, where a local driver knows the mist and the bends.
Can I return the car somewhere other than Hatton?
Yes. Most guests reach Hatton mid-itinerary and carry on to Nuwara Eliya, Ella or Kandy. Tell us your route and we'll arrange collection.
