150cc, for riders who already ride — the two-wheeler that suits Hatton's tea country, with the pull for the climbs to Maskeliya, Bogawantalawa and up the A7 where a loaded scooter runs out of breath.

Riding a motorbike out of Hatton
This is where the 150cc earns its keep. The roads out of Hatton climb constantly — 30 km of switchbacks to the Adam's Peak trailhead at Nallathanniya, the estate roads around Castlereagh and Maussakelle, the A7 east past St Clair's Falls toward Nuwara Eliya — and the FZ holds a steady pace up all of it where a scooter carrying two would be crawling.
The hazards here are weather and surface, not traffic. Mist can drop visibility in minutes, the tar stays damp and slick under the tea cover, and the drops at the road edge are real. Ride in the morning, brake early for the bends, and keep well back from the estate lorries. If you have never ridden on the left, or not ridden much at all, do that first somewhere flat — not here.
Either the AAC or DMT permit covers a 150cc motorbike, on top of a valid licence from home. We handle the application before you arrive.

Compare AAC vs DMT →Questions about motorbike rental in Hatton
- Is the motorbike the right choice for Adam's Peak?
- For an experienced rider, yes — the 150cc has the pull for the 30 km climb to Nallathanniya via Maskeliya, and it's quicker to park at the trailhead than a car in pilgrimage season. Ride it in daylight; the descent in the dark after a pre-dawn climb is not the time to be on an unfamiliar bike.
- How bad is the weather for riding around Hatton?
- Changeable year-round. Mornings are usually the clearest; afternoons cloud over and rain is common. The road surface stays wet under the tea cover, so brake early and keep your speed down on the bends.
- I'm a confident rider but new to Sri Lanka — is Hatton a fair start?
- Not really. The combination of left-side driving, hairpins, mist and estate-lorry traffic is a lot at once. A few days on the flatter coast roads first makes the hill country much more manageable.
- Can I return the motorbike somewhere other than Hatton?
- Yes. Most riders reach Hatton mid-trip and carry on to Nuwara Eliya, Ella or Kandy. Tell us where you expect to finish and we'll arrange collection.
