The tuk tuk's roof is genuinely useful here — Hatton clouds over most afternoons, and a sudden downpour on an estate road is far more pleasant under cover than on two wheels. For a group heading to Castlereagh Reservoir or a short loop through the estates, it does the job.

The 40 km/h cap bites more in the hills than on the coast, because the gradients already slow you down. The 30 km to the Adam's Peak trailhead at Nallathanniya is a long, winding hour and a half in a tuk tuk, and the descent needs care — engine-brake down the steep sections rather than riding the brakes.
