Driving a car out of Hikkaduwa
A car makes the coastal loop comfortable in a day — Ambalangoda's mask workshops, the Madu River launch at Balapitiya, and Galle Fort are all within a short drive, with the boot locked and the air conditioning on.
Both directions on the Galle Road — south to Galle and Unawatuna, north toward Bentota, Colombo and the airport — are well-paved and straightforward. The Southern Expressway joins at Pinnaduwa near Galle if you want to skip the coastal traffic for the longer runs.
