Riding a motorbike out of Hikkaduwa
Around Hikkaduwa itself a motorbike has more power than the flat coast needs — a scooter does the beach strip and the short hops just as well. Where the 150cc earns its place is the longer coastal runs: north past Bentota, or south through Galle toward Mirissa and Tangalle, where it holds a comfortable speed a loaded scooter can't.
The Galle Road is the busiest and least predictable road here — coastal buses, lorries, and no lane markings in stretches. If you haven't ridden on the left before, it's the traffic that takes adjusting to, not the bike; a quiet first morning on the inland lanes helps before you take the main road.
Either the AAC or DMT permit covers a 150cc motorbike, on top of a valid licence from home. We handle the application before you arrive.
