Driving a tuk tuk out of Mirissa

Mirissa's own roads are short — the harbour, the beach road, and the headland out to Coconut Tree Hill are all a few minutes apart. A tuk tuk covers that easily and gives you somewhere dry to leave a jacket or towel while you walk the last stretch to the viewpoint, since the path itself is on foot either way.

The coast road north to Weligama is flat and well paved, four kilometres of easy driving if you want to see the stilt fishermen or try a beginner surf lesson without changing hotels. Keep going and Matara's old fort is a bit further again — a reasonable half-day loop rather than a rushed there-and-back.

Tuk tuk

When we had a flat tire, they immediately got in their car and brought us an extra spare wheel. Before we hit the road, we were given a thorough driving lesson.

Questions about tuk tuk rental in Mirissa

Is a tuk tuk practical for getting around Mirissa?
Yes — the roads here are easy driving, and it carries more than a scooter or motorbike if you're travelling as a group.
Can I fit more than two people and luggage?
Yes — that's the tuk tuk's advantage. It comfortably carries a small family or group with bags along the coast road.
Can I return the tuk tuk somewhere other than Mirissa?
Yes. Tell us where you expect to end up along the coast and we will arrange collection.
