Riding a scooter out of Sigiriya

The cultural triangle's roads are some of the flattest and best paved in Sri Lanka, which makes a scooter an easy way to cover the rock fortress, Habarana, and Dambulla without much effort. Minneriya is a similarly easy ride if the elephant gathering is in season.

The longer stretches to Polonnaruwa and especially Anuradhapura add real time in the saddle, and the road south to Kandy climbs — plan for a fuller day on those routes rather than a quick there-and-back.

The bike was near new, loved that the petrol cap wasn't under the seat so i could get it filled up whilst still sitting. Dropping off was just as easy and was given a ride back to my hotel.
