Driving a tuk tuk out of Sigiriya

The roads between Sigiriya, Habarana, and Dambulla are flat and well paved — ideal tuk tuk territory, and the three are close enough together that the extra seats and boot space are a bonus rather than a hassle. The rock fortress itself is a walk from most stays in town, so the tuk tuk earns its keep once you're moving between sights.

Minneriya and Polonnaruwa are further out and still manageable, but the longer run to Anuradhapura or south to Kandy takes real time on a tuk tuk — build in extra hours rather than treating the map distance as the drive time.
