Driving a tuk tuk out of Weligama
Weligama's bay is wide and flat, easy tuk tuk driving along the beach road past the surf schools and the stilt fishermen who still work this stretch of coast. Taprobane, the small private island just offshore, is close enough to see from the road without a special trip.
Mirissa is a flat four-kilometre run along the coast if you want to see the harbour or catch a whale-watching boat, and Ahangama's quieter surf breaks are about the same distance the other way — an easy loop either direction, with a roof overhead if the midday sun gets strong and room for a board or two if you're carrying one.
