About the Honda Grace
The Grace is Honda's hybrid sedan, built on the same platform as the Honda Fit/Jazz but with a closed boot instead of a hatch — useful if you'd rather keep luggage out of sight. Its 1,496 cc i-DCD hybrid system pairs a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic with an electric motor, and the sedan boot takes two large suitcases plus cabin bags. A sensible, understated choice for travellers who want hybrid economy without the Aqua or Insight's hatchback look.

The Grace is automatic only, using Honda's 7-speed dual-clutch (DCT) hybrid transmission rather than a CVT — it shifts more like a conventional automatic than the Aqua or Insight. There is no manual version.

The refundable deposit is taken when you collect the vehicle, by cash, card, Google Pay, Apple Pay, or a payment link we send on WhatsApp, in USD, EUR, GBP, or LKR. Card deposits are charged rather than held, and refunded within two weeks of your rental ending.
If your card is issued in EUR or GBP, your bank converts twice and the refund can come back slightly under what you paid. Paying the deposit in cash avoids this.
The paperwork you’ll need to drive
Your home licence is not enough on its own, and neither is an International Driving Permit by itself. Sri Lanka has two issuers, and they differ in fee, validity, and which vehicles they cover.

Department of Motor TrafficIf you have an International Driving Permit, the AAC permit is the better choice. It costs less, lasts six months instead of one, and covers every vehicle including tuk tuks. If you arrived without an IDP, use the DMT counter at the airport. It is open 24 hours and you can collect it on the way out.

Why self-drive, and why the paperwork matters
The Grace rewards driving yourself on the longer coastal runs — Galle to Mirissa or Tangalle — where the sedan's closed boot keeps luggage out of sight at a guesthouse car park and the hybrid system holds fuel costs down over a full day on the road. It is a quieter, more understated car than the Aqua or Insight, for travellers who would rather not stand out.
Stay more than a few days, and driving yourself wins
Not because it is cheaper on paper. A hired driver’s day ends, and yours doesn’t. This rental is priced per day, with a 150 km/day mileage allowance* — plenty for coastal and day-trip driving without watching a hired driver’s clock.
Nobody should rent here without the local paperwork
We have handled the paperwork for every customer across 3+ years of operation, and no customer has been turned away at that stage. An operator who waves the requirement away has likely made decisions about insurance and maintenance that you cannot see either.
Pickup and island-wide delivery
We deliver to your hotel or guesthouse and collect island-wide, arranged on WhatsApp. Airport and train station transfers are available — your Honda Grace arrives with a full tank and the 430 L boot cleared and ready for luggage.

- Can I drop the vehicle off in a different town?
- Yes. Plenty of people pick up at our base and finish in Ella or Hikkaduwa. Tell us where you expect to end up and we will arrange collection. We can move your luggage separately too, if you'd rather not bring it with you.
- What if something goes wrong on the road?
- Message us. WhatsApp support runs 365 days a year and we arrange roadside help. We have driven out with a spare wheel more than once.
