About the Nissan Magnite
The Magnite is NOHA's compact SUV: a 999 cc petrol engine in a taller, boxier body than the Alto K10 or Wagon R, with similar raised ground clearance to the Vezel but on a petrol engine rather than a hybrid one. It suits travellers who want an SUV look and a bit more ground clearance on a straightforward petrol drivetrain rather than a hybrid system.

Is the Nissan Magnite right for your trip?
Best for
- Travellers who want SUV styling and ground clearance on a petrol budget
- Two or three people with light-to-moderate luggage
- Mixed coastal and highway driving where a taller body helps visibility
Consider another model if…
Choose the Aqua or Insight for hybrid fuel economy at a lower deposit. Drop to the Wagon R if you want similar interior space on a smaller, cheaper petrol engine and deposit; step up to the Vezel for the same SUV body with a hybrid system, at the same deposit.

Refundable deposit
USD 500
EUR 450
The refundable deposit is taken when you collect the vehicle, by cash, card, Google Pay, Apple Pay, or a payment link we send on WhatsApp, in USD, EUR, GBP, or LKR. Card deposits are charged rather than held, and refunded within two weeks of your rental ending.
If your card is issued in EUR or GBP, your bank converts twice and the refund can come back slightly under what you paid. Paying the deposit in cash avoids this.
The paperwork you’ll need to drive
Your home licence is not enough on its own, and neither is an International Driving Permit by itself. Sri Lanka has two issuers, and they differ in fee, validity, and which vehicles they cover.

Department of Motor TrafficIf you have an International Driving Permit, the AAC permit is the better choice. It costs less, lasts six months instead of one, and covers every vehicle including tuk tuks. If you arrived without an IDP, use the DMT counter at the airport. It is open 24 hours and you can collect it on the way out.
We handle the application before you arrive. It is charged separately from the vehicle rental.

Why self-drive, and why the paperwork matters
The Magnite's raised ground clearance earns its keep on the rougher back lanes inland from the coast road, where a lower car scrapes and the Magnite doesn't. Driven yourself, it is the SUV option for travellers who want that higher view of the road without paying for a hybrid system they may not need on a short trip.
Stay more than a few days, and driving yourself wins
Not because it is cheaper on paper. A hired driver’s day ends, and yours doesn’t. This rental is priced per day, with a 150 km/day mileage allowance* — plenty for coastal and day-trip driving without watching a hired driver’s clock.
Nobody should rent here without the local paperwork
We have handled the paperwork for every customer across 3+ years of operation, and no customer has been turned away at that stage. An operator who waves the requirement away has likely made decisions about insurance and maintenance that you cannot see either.
Pickup and island-wide delivery
We deliver to your hotel or guesthouse and collect island-wide, arranged on WhatsApp. Airport and train station transfers are available — your Nissan Magnite arrives with a full tank and the 336 L boot cleared and ready for luggage.
Need it further out, or finishing your trip somewhere else entirely? We deliver and collect island-wide — message us on WhatsApp with the details. That covers one-way trips along the coast too: Galle, Unawatuna, Ahangama, Midigama, Weligama, Mirissa, Tangalle, Ella.
Common questions
- Is the Nissan Magnite automatic or manual?
- Both are available, depending on the variant in the yard for your dates — a conventional manual or a CVT automatic. Let us know your preference when you book.
- Is the Nissan Magnite a hybrid?
- No, it runs on a 999 cc petrol engine. For hybrid fuel economy, see the Aqua, Insight, Grace or Vezel.
- How much luggage fits in the Nissan Magnite?
- One to two large suitcases plus cabin bags, in a 336-litre boot — similar to the Wagon R.
- Does the Nissan Magnite have air conditioning?
- Yes, standard on every NOHA car, along with full insurance, a 150 km/day mileage allowance and a driving introduction lesson.
- Does the Nissan Magnite have unlimited mileage?
- No — the Magnite is capped at 150 km per rental day, calculated cumulatively over the whole rental rather than per day. For unlimited mileage, choose any other NOHA car model except the Honda Grace or Toyota Prius.
- Can I drop the vehicle off in a different town?
- Yes. Plenty of people pick up at our base and finish in Ella or Hikkaduwa. Tell us where you expect to end up and we will arrange collection. We can move your luggage separately too, if you'd rather not bring it with you.
- What if something goes wrong on the road?
- Message us. WhatsApp support runs 365 days a year and we arrange roadside help. We have driven out with a spare wheel more than once.
