About the Honda Insight
The Insight is NOHA's smallest hybrid: a 1,339 cc petrol engine paired with Honda's IMA electric assist and a CVT automatic, so it drives like the Aqua but in a five-door liftback body rather than a compact hatch. Its boot swallows two large suitcases plus cabin bags, and the hybrid system keeps fuel costs down on the same stop-start coastal driving the Aqua is built for. Automatic only, with no manual option.

Best for
- Two or three people who want hybrid fuel economy with more boot space than the Aqua
- Mostly coastal and in-town driving, where the hybrid system saves the most fuel
- Travellers who want an automatic-only car and don't need the Prius's extra seating room
Consider another model if…
Move up to the Vezel or Prius if you need a bigger boot or a higher seating position; the Prius in particular is the better pick for long highway runs with four adults. Drop to the Wagon R or Alto K10 if a petrol engine and a lower deposit matter more to you than hybrid running costs.

The Insight is automatic only, using a CVT paired with Honda's IMA electric motor. There is no manual version — twist the key and the hybrid system does the rest.

Refundable deposit

The refundable deposit is taken when you collect the vehicle, by cash, card, Google Pay, Apple Pay, or a payment link we send on WhatsApp, in USD, EUR, GBP, or LKR. Card deposits are charged rather than held, and refunded within two weeks of your rental ending.
If your card is issued in EUR or GBP, your bank converts twice and the refund can come back slightly under what you paid. Paying the deposit in cash avoids this.
The paperwork you’ll need to drive
Your home licence is not enough on its own, and neither is an International Driving Permit by itself. Sri Lanka has two issuers, and they differ in fee, validity, and which vehicles they cover.

Department of Motor TrafficIf you have an International Driving Permit, the AAC permit is the better choice. It costs less, lasts six months instead of one, and covers every vehicle including tuk tuks. If you arrived without an IDP, use the DMT counter at the airport. It is open 24 hours and you can collect it on the way out.

* Unlimited mileage applies to every NOHA car model except the Nissan Magnite, Honda Grace and Toyota Prius, which are capped at 150 km per rental day, calculated over the whole rental period, regardless of rental length. See our terms and conditions for details.
Why self-drive, and why the paperwork matters
The Insight's hybrid system is built for exactly the driving NOHA customers do most: short hops between Galle Fort, Unawatuna and the beach towns along the coast, with plenty of stopping and starting. Driving it yourself means every traffic-light queue and every slow tuk-tuk you crawl past in town is where the hybrid is actually saving you fuel, rather than a hired driver's fuel bill you never see.
Stay more than a few days, and driving yourself wins
Not because it is cheaper on paper. A hired driver’s day ends, and yours doesn’t. This rental is priced per day, with unlimited kilometres* — the rate does not move based on how far you go or what time you come back.
Nobody should rent here without the local paperwork
We have handled the paperwork for every customer across 3+ years of operation, and no customer has been turned away at that stage. An operator who waves the requirement away has likely made decisions about insurance and maintenance that you cannot see either.
Pickup and island-wide delivery
We deliver to your hotel or guesthouse and collect island-wide, arranged on WhatsApp. Airport and train station transfers are available — your Honda Insight arrives with a full tank and the 400 L boot cleared and ready for luggage.

- How much luggage fits in the Honda Insight?
- Two large suitcases (24–28") plus cabin bags fit in the boot — more than the Alto K10 or Aqua, thanks to the Insight's liftback body.
- Is the Honda Insight a hybrid?
- Yes. A 1,339 cc petrol engine runs alongside Honda's IMA electric motor through a CVT automatic. You never plug it in — the battery charges as you drive and brake.
- Does the Honda Insight have air conditioning?
- Yes. Air conditioning is standard on every NOHA car, along with full insurance, unlimited kilometres* and a driving introduction lesson.
- Can I drop the vehicle off in a different town?
- Yes. Plenty of people pick up at our base and finish in Ella or Hikkaduwa. Tell us where you expect to end up and we will arrange collection. We can move your luggage separately too, if you'd rather not bring it with you.
- What if something goes wrong on the road?
- Message us. WhatsApp support runs 365 days a year and we arrange roadside help. We have driven out with a spare wheel more than once.
